Fake Book Review For Hogg.
I'll say why this is a fake book review later.
Once my father was talking about a book he liked but said he wouldn't recommend it. He said he enjoyed it but it was so specific to a certain interest that nobody else would enjoy it. I don't remember what book it was. At the time I couldn't think of a book that I have read that I wouldn't recommend. Even Gravity's Rainbow. Now I can.
Hogg.
By Samuel Delaney.
I wouldn't even tell anyone that this book existed. Once you know, it will always be there in your mind, challenging you to read it. It did me, because I've always pursued the most depraved worst shit out there.
The reviews on Amazon and other sources calling it the most perverted depraved book of all time are correct.
Is it art? Can I say so for myself?
I'm calling this a fake book review because I have 30 pages to go.
So so far. Hogg, one of the main characters, others are Nigger, Wop, and Cocksucker, does try to make some social commentary. Is it enough to rise above pure vulgarity? Maybe not. I'm thinking not.
Every few pages I want to quit. I officially quit once already, but forced myself back in to it. Like two girls and one cup. I keep finding myself looking away.
So I guess the point is, I've read the Einstein Intersection, and have at least a little respect for Delaney.
Just finished the book. Publishing this review as is. Maybe I'll publish a revised review.
